Surface History

23rd October - 1st December 2017

Hilary Angle lives and works in the East Riding, but spends lots of time in West Cork and France. She exhibits regularly, locally and in Europe, and has work in collections in USA, France and UK.

Her recent work has been about creating a sense of depth in the composition using thin transparent and opaque layers of paint in a purely abstract way. Materials are applied, etched, painted and scraped away to reveal underlying layers. Source material comes from Hilary's own photography, and she aims for a sense of substance, a combination of rich textures, gestural marks and weathered surfaces.
