Jackie Needham

The inspiration for much of my work lies in the relationship between animals and humans within fairytales and fables.

Interweaving the symbolism of these ancient stories with personal memories, I blur the boundaries between truth and mythology to offer the viewer an alternative narrative.

Some of my ceramic creatures reference a nostalgic past, being whimsical and gently humorous, whereas others are psychologically darker and thought provoking.

I use a variety of making and firing methods including the serendipity of saggar and smoke firing to achieve a range of surface colouration and textures to complement each unique piece.
